This exhibition focuses on extraordinary examples of smoking pipes that provided their owners with visual as well as smoking pleasure, and with prestige. Featured will be approximately 80 outstanding European and American pipes of clay, porcelain, wood and meerschaum.

May 31 - September 1
Summers in Maine: Paintings by N.C. Wyeth
In 1920, N.C. Wyeth purchased an old sea captain's house in the fishing village of Port Clyde, Maine. For the next quarter century, the house (christened "Eight Bells" after Winslow Homer's famous painting) was the artist's respite from the hot Brandywine Valley summers and from the stress of commercial work. Liberated from such pressures, Wyeth's Maine experiences allowed him to paint subjects of his choosing in a variety of styles. This exhibition brings together many of Wyeth's finest Maine paintings, some to be shown in Chadds Ford for the first time.

Ongoing Exhibitions
Brandywine Heritage Galleries
Paintings and drawings from the museum's collection, including works by Howard Pyle, his students, members of the Wyeth family, and other distinguished American artists such as Jasper Cropsey, William Trost Richard, Maxfield Parrish, Harvey Dunn and Jessie Willcox Smith.

through November 23, 2003
N.C. Wyeth House and Studio Tours - The house where N.C. Wyeth raised his extraordinarily creative children and the studio in which he painted many of his memorable works of art have been restored to reflect their character in 1945, the year of the artist's death.

Tours takes about an hour and are limited to groups of 6 people at a time. They are offered at timed intervals, Wednesday through Sunday. For reservations call (610) 388-8326. We recommend calling two weeks in advance of your visit.
