9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Enjoy the wintry beauty of the Brandywine Creek from the Brandywine River Museum's expansive atrium windows. Artists working in all media are invited to explore the vista from inside the Museum where they can sketch, paint, or photograph while staying warm. Participants may also enjoy sketching (with pencil) in the Museum's galleries. Participants are responsible for providing all art materials (including drop cloths).$10 Members; $20 Non-Members. (February 1-3, 2018)
The Chadds Ford Historical Society hosts its 10th annual Plein Air art event called Paint Out Chadds Ford from Thursday, February 1 through Saturday, February 3, 2018. Artists from the Mid-Atlantic region will be painting outdoors around the Chadds Ford area as well as at the Barns Brinton House, John Chads House and along Brandywine Creek.

The Chadds Ford Historical Society will host a special art exhibition at the Society's Barn Visitors Center on Saturday evening, February 3. From 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the public is invited to an Artists Reception and a wet paint sale. Admission is $15 per person ($10 for Chadds Ford Historical Society members), and includes light refreshments. Guests can meet the artists, and view the work just completed in the Paint Out Chadds Ford plein air event as well as select art featuring the Brandywine Valley.

10:00 am - 1:00 pm. The Polar Plunge event is hosted by the Brandywine Red Clay Alliance to support their efforts to protect and conserve the natural resources of the Brandywine and Red Clay Valleys. Since 2008, nearly 1,200 people have taken the plunge to raise over $107,700 to protect and conserve our regions natural resources. Participants may register at the event.

Kennett Area Community Service Annual Empty Bowls Event (Thursday, February 22, 2018)

"Empty Bowls" is an international, grassroots, crafts-based effort to end hunger. It's mission is to provide nutritional food to over 1,200 individuals in the community each month. Attendees will enjoy a simple meal of soup and salad and leave with a handmade bowl as a reminder of families in need. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction with over 100 items during both meals. Call 610-925-3556 for more information and tickets.

5:00 p.m. Experience the sounds of booming brass, toe-tapping percussion and sultry solos at the Annual Jazz Along the Brandywine competition on Saturday, February 24th at Unionville High School in Kennett Square from 5-10pm. Twelve local high school jazz bands comprising over 200 students will compete.

Tickets for Jazz Along the Brandywine are $8 for adults; $6 for students and seniors. Concessions will be available for purchase.

To fish, you must bring a valid driver's license to register in the office. Fees are $3/person, $3/trout. Bait is available for $1. All trout must be kept and paid for. No releasing.
In order to fish in the stream, you need a Pennsylvania fishing license and a Park fly fishing membership. E-mail the Mill at info@newlingristmill.org to request membership information be mailed to you. Fishing privileges in the stream are limited to a list of approved membership numbering no more than 100.

The racing and family oriented festivities take place on the rolling countryside of the Brandywine Valley Association's 318-acre Myrick Conservation Center on Route 842 approximately six miles west of West Chester and three miles east of Unionville.

This Gravel Grinder / Gran Fondo will take riders through the scenic country-side and rolling hills of the Brandywine Valley, some of the most unspoiled and historic countryside of the Mid-Atlantic. The full ride is 60 miles (and 4,000 feet of climbing) with over 40% consisting of gravel / mixed surface roads including the famed 1 mile long Hill Top Road climb (10% grade in some sections) and several newly added gravel sections. The course is suited for both road bikes (25 mm tires best) and cyclocross bikes, and will have a road bypass option for avoiding several of the more technical sections.Click for more info.

Hundreds of plant lovers from across the nation plan their calendars around this annual event that is acclaimed for it's premier selection of unusual, newly-introduced or difficult to propagate specimens. 600+ plants donated by more than 100 nurseries and individuals from across the country. Proceeds of this event benefit Delaware Center for Horticulture's Community Greening Program, which uses horticulture to beautify Delaware and to improve the quality of life for residents in urban neighborhoods. Admission is $125 - $600 per person for this fundraising event.

The Annual "Hear We Go" 5K Run/Walk portion takes place throughout the beautifully blooming grounds of Nemours Estate, arguably the largest formal French garden in North America. The event concludes with refreshments and an educational fair for families and children on the grounds of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.

The event aims to raise awareness about the importance of proper and timely diagnosis and management of hearing loss in children in order to facilitate their language development. Proceeds will benefit clinical and research programs at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, related to hearing loss and hearing conservation in children in our community.

The Pennsylvania Hunt Cup is a Timber steeplechase race with a distance of four miles and 22 fences, over fair hunting country. It is a substantial test of both horse and rider, and is one of just three 4-mile steeplechase races sanctioned by the National Steeplechase Association. First run in 1921 over a course in Whitemarsh , PA, the race moved to the present location in Unionville, PA in 1964, where it has been held annually since. Over the years the race meeting has grown so that the race day card now includes three sanctioned timber races, and the Pennsylvania Pony Hunt Cup for children.
