275 Brinton's Bridge Road (Dilworthtown VIllage)
West Chester, PA 19382
THE COUNTRY STORE IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR HISTORIC RENOVATION. WHEN WE KNOW MORE ABOUT A DATE AND RE-OPENING, WE WILL POST THE INFORMATION HERE.

The Dilworthtown Country Store, we're told, is the oldest continuously operated retail establishment in the Valley. The store's wooden counter, was used as an operating table to treat wounded soldiers after the Battle of the Brandywine.

The building itself is well worth a visit, even if you aren't looking for bric-a-brac, collectibles, hand-dipped candles, hand-forged cabinet handles, American primitive art, accent pieces or colonial trimmings. The store is made up of small rooms, each with its own charm and flavor. The well-worn painted hardwood floors, the tiny passageways from room to room and the fixtures speak of history, colonial times and have a presence all their own.

And don't miss taking a peek at the garden in the back. You go through original doors that are clad in metal now to an outdoor space that reminds you of an English garden. The garden tools and pots, placed haphazardly near the wall, look liked a still life. It's just one of those places that seems to have gotten it right. But after all, they've been at it since 1758. They've had time.

Location 15 minutes from Longwood Gardens and the Brandywine River Museum, adjacent to the Dilworthtown Inn. From Chadds Ford take Rt. 100 North to Brinton's Bridge Road (the first right). Turn right on to Brinton's Bridge Road and follow till you see the store at the six road intersection of what's referred to as the Dilworthtown Village.
