Bordley House Grill
When Joe Gamble, the chef at Bordley House Grill at Broad Run emailed me asking if would add them to our restaurant database I was at a loss. I had no idea where the grill was. Then it clicked. He was talking about the Grill at Broad Run Golf Course near Marshallston. I, of course, thought it closed for the winter along with the golf course. "Not so", he said, "but that was what everyone thought". So we decided to go for dinner on a Friday, after checking the weather forecast. Those country roads can be a problem with a wintry mix coming down. It took about 20 minute from Chadds Ford. We walked in to find we were the only people there. Joe wasn't kidding. We took the table right in front of the fire, which Joe lit for us, and after looking over the menu we ordered Seafood Bisque to start along with some sparking wine. Due to the snow, deliveries to the grill on the hill have been difficult and Joe has had to be a little creative, crafting dishes from what he has fresh on hand. Entrees the abbreviated Winter Menu were Fork Tender Braised Beef with Fresh Kennett White and Crimini Mushrooms served in a Veal Demi Glaze Sauce, Chicken Marsala, Salmon, Fish & Chips and Fried Clams. The seafood bisque was hot and flavorful... the fire warming...and the fork tender braised beef, one of my home-cooked favorites, pure comfort food. We enjoyed the meal, watching the big flat screen TV (we were handed the remote) and the extraordinary service. What a venue for a dinner get together with friends. You could literally own the place. The Bordley House Grill is only open for dinner on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday nights until golf season returns when it will again be packed with golfers and locals. All I can say is we enjoyed ourselves and felt totally at home in an completely empty restaurant. It could have been a bit creepy out there in the dark and quiet of the snow covered West Chester countryside, but it was anything but. After dinner, as we headed out to our car in the parking lot, two deer rambled by us. Wow. 2/5/2011
April, 2014- The Bordley House Grille now has a new chef, Jamie Nafe, and a new Food and Beverage Manager, Katrina Schmidt. Formerly acting as Executive Chef of Firecreek in Downingtown, PA, Jamie has over a decade of experience in Culinary Arts. Katrina has worked in Food and Beverage for over a decade herself, gleaning culinary wisdom from all over the country, including Napa Valley and Portland, Oregon. They are dedicated to fresh, local, and seasonal foods and have put them on new food and beverage menus along with locally-brewed craft beers, house-infused seasonal cocktails, and vegetables and herbs grown in the restaurant's own herb garden!
