J. Maki Winery at French Creek Ridge Vineyards
Thirteen acres of south-facing slope with elevation, in Chester County, have spawned America's signature champagne. From well drained schist soil atop limestone, ideally suited for wine grapes, the J. Maki Winery at French Creek Ridge Vineyards has crafted the only American champagne to ever be awarded the gold medal from the Olympics of wine competition - the Vinalies Internationales in Paris, France.
While champagne provided the foundation for international recognition, two years later our Vidal Blanc Ice Wine, the premium of dessert wines, garnered the silver medal at the same prestigious competition. Now, with a tough act to follow, our internationally acclaimed winemaker, J. Maki ( , Finnish), has created a unique line-up of red and white varietals known for boldness and distinction, in the European premium dry wine tradition.
Located in a landscape of natural rustic beauty protected by the National Heritage Area designation, we have undertaken an elaborate, on-going project to enhance the visual experience for our visitors. An Old World Belgian block surface has been meticulously constructed at the winery and vineyard entrance, with a genuine iron-forged gate imported from Austria. 
The 19th Century barn on the picturesque thirty-two acre estate has been extended to include a new 1000 square foot tasting room, complete with a twenty five foot wall composed entirely of the original stone work.
The focus is to marry great wine with a great aesthetic in order to create a memorable experience, on many levels. We bring passion to what we do, and how we do it: it's not a living; it's a way of life.
